Norm Nelson in the ex-Petty Enterprises Superbird - Milwaukee July 1971. Norm regularly drove the teams standard 1970 Road Runner. But during a test session at Milwaukee in late June 1971, he got behind the wheel of lead driver Roger McCluskey's Superbird and decided it had an advantage, even on the one mile track. Arrangements were quickly made for a gently used Petty Superbird to be shipped north, and the results are what you see here. There was no time to repaint the car, so it remained Petty Blue with the white highlights added. Story attributed to George Wallace, Chrysler Engineering.
